Unusually heavy rainfall (260mm) in the first 5 weeks after planting soaked the soil.
Plants started to turn reddish before the first spray.

40 ha under irrigation (pivot) were treated
Treatments/Behandelinge 1. 400 ml/ha 6 weeks after planting (18 Dec. '98)
2. 400 ml/ha 10 days later
3. 400 ml/ha 10 days later
Normal fertilization and micro elements for an estimated 4 ton/ha yield applied (as recommended by Lonrho for this area)

Results/Uitslae The following was established with Lonrho:
Average yield for area (with the same fertilizing programme): 2.8 t/ha
Yield estimate for treated crop done on 13/05/99: 4.8 t/ha
Fibre micron: 4.2 -4.8 compared with 3.9 average for the area.

Mr Ueckermann also observed:
* very little flower shedding
* visible recovery from the stress soon after the first spray
* improved growth right through the growth cycle; crops in the area were dying while the treated crop kept growing and still produced flowers
